Dr. Vegas is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Applied Chest Imaging Laboratory (ACIL) the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Originally trained in signal theory and mathematics, Dr. Vegas joined the ACIL in 2015 to develop CT harmonization methodologies scans for multicenter studies. His research interests include noise characterization, signal estimation, and quantitative imaging. Dr. Vegas has coauthored over 100 publications, one reference book on MRI noise characterization, and was awarded a Marie Curie grant from the European Commission. He is currently developing his scientific program on CT harmonization to assess parenchymal injury progression under an NIH K25 career development award. He was also awarded an NIH R21 grant to develop robust early small airway disease detection with quantitative CT imaging. Dr. Vegas is a member of the COPDGene imaging core group. In 2021, he joined as a co-chair of the Lung Density Biomarker Committee of the Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA), an initiative of the RSNA to unite researchers, healthcare professionals and industry to advance quantitative imaging and the use of imaging biomarkers in clinical trials and clinical practice.
