Dr. Diaz is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Scientist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Diaz works with physician-scientists and computer scientists at the Applied Chest Imaging Laboratory (ACIL) at BWH. His research group focuses on developing imaging biomarkers to understand, diagnose, prognosticate, and intervene in airway diseases, including COPD and bronchiectasis. Dr. Diaz uses visual and engineering-based methodologies applied to computed tomography scans from various NIH-funded cohorts, including COPDGene, ECLIPSE, DECAMP, CARDIA, and FHS, to investigate imaging biomarkers, pathologic features, and health outcomes of COPD and bronchiectasis. He also investigates the respiratory health of the Hispanic/Latino population by analyzing large cohorts, such as the Study of Latinos and NHANES. Dr. Diaz has trained college students, postgraduate trainees, and postdoctoral fellows. He has over 150 publications in his research field and leads research programs on airway diseases through NIH-funded grants.
